I use a good dishwasher detergent. Electrosol and Cascade are the best. You might try using jetdry in the place on your inside of the dishwasher door. Jetdry removes spots and clouds.

Hey Wise_one,
I disagree with the answers so far. We have tried Jet Dry, we use the good diswasher detergent and still same results... glasses discolor after awhile. In fact we found the glasses do better WITHOUT the Jet Dry! My current theory is it's the heat of the dishwasher. The water is heater hotter than your domestice hot water and especuially the dry cycle. We just keep our good glasses out of the dishwasher now and do them by hand; and no more problems with the discoloring there now. An we have just resolved to replaces the everyday glasses when they get bad; they are not the expensive and someone will still want them so Salvation Army gets them. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it until I hear/see something that we haven't tried already and seems to be possible.

I had this problem years ago. I was using too much detergent in my dishwasher. The cloudiness is actually etched into the glass and will not come off. I know only use Cascade Liquid. Never use anything with lemon or orange or anything citrus in it. It might smell good but, will actually pit your silverware. If you have a well some of the problem could also be your water. You should have it tested.

Use less detergent
switch to a gel type
use jet dry
or as a last resort..hand wash...most glasses will eventually scratch and become cloudy in a dishwasher

I agree with everyone else--jetdry. My favorite detergent is the Electrosol tabs with the jet dry ball. It always has a perfect amount time--no pouring--so you don't use too much, and it is one step. It has also made the spots go away on our glasses. What I also found is that they have saved us money. They come in big tubs for like $10.00, but they seem to last forever.

I only use Cascade Gel now and have not had problems. I still have some glasses with permanent streaking/clouding. The problem can also lie in the quality of your machine and/or your water. If it's "hard water" with heavier concentrations of minerals, you're facing an uphill battle.

I won't debase myself to call my tip Martha-style. She's too snooty. BUT - put a splash of white vinegar in the bottom of your dishwasher before running the cycle. This will help.

Yes jet dry, or any other detergent that speeds up the drying process so as not to get water spots.
