It goes under "family and relationships in some cases. Just kidding. Wild pigs/hogs can, and do attack humans unprovoked. They are very family oriented and protect not only their OWN piglets, but other litters in the group. They have large tushes that are capable of killing. They swing their heads from side to side and ripp flesh with these. Domestic pigs have the same instincts and WILL revert back to them when allowed to "range" freely. Domestics are also VERY protective of their young. This really can't be trained or raised out of them. Boars are protective of the herd and are most vicious when cornered.

If you want to stroke pigs go to a petting farm where they are used to people, because they can be extremely dangerous.
Pigs are omnivores, they will catch and kill rats, cats and other vermin in their pens. They will catch and eat loose hens. In the old days they have been put on trial for murder, for eating babies and small children. (You have to wonder how the babies ended up in the pig pen).
Everyone who works on pig farms is told a tall tale of the bloke that used to work there, 'and they only found his boots'. But in real life pigs do attack.
Its not that they attack unprovoked; its just that most people can't read their body language or predict what they will do next; so can't tell if they are doing something that the pig objects to.
They are extremely heavy and powerful animals. They are intelligent and easy to tame but most farm pigs are just used to being around people; thats not the same thing as tame. Don't mess!

Yes they can attack, sows with piglets are very protective of them, and pigs can run very fast when they have a mind to, having said this they also like a fuss made of them and 90% of the time are pretty docile, ask your local pig farmer if you can stroke one of his pigs, he can only say no! Don't go into a field/pen of pigs without the farmer being there.

My partner used to work with pigs - well boars - and they did have sharp tusks and he often used to come home and say how vicious they could be. He could walk into where they were though normally with no problems, but I would say be careful or at least have someone with you who knows the pigs if you decide to go up to one! He also used to mention how some are worse than others - they have little personalities like everyone so definitely have the owner there with you. Good luck!

any animal can turn on you. It all depends on their mental capability to handle humans. If it were raise from birth by a human as a pet (Most pigs are not) you can be a friend to the pig and he will be friends with you. I notice males in any species has an attendancy to attack if he does not have females to mate with or he could be protecting that female

Pigs are generally docile and love their heads being rubbed. The most common reason for a pig to attack is if you get between a sow and her piglets. she will see you as a threat to her babies. Pigs have large teeth - especially the males - and very strong jaws, so their bite can be very serious.

yes they get grumpy just like humans so never take it for granted that just because a pig didnt bite you last time it won't bite you in the future. Nothing like attack of the psycho killer pigs or anything but they can try and remove fingers/toes etc if they get the hump.

Pigs bite. They're cranky, nasty, stinky. You can pet them if they're locked up in a crate. They feel coarse when you pet them, their hair is rough. The babies are cute and soft. A crated sow will lay down on her babies, they don't care. They can trample you, so you don't want to get in front of one thats moving. My husband came home with a huge bruise where one old sow decided she didn't want to go where he wanted her to and she charged him, knocking him over and the board he was using to keep her from doing just that over too.

Yes they can and they can be pretty nasty with it. It would probably be advisable to check with the owner on the temperament of the particular animal before you attempt to fuss it.
