Do you feel that this is what's happening here, OR do you think it's been railroaded by narcissistic, angry boys who rant and rave at every opportunity. They are disruptive, and sadistic: they love nothing more than to throw sand in our faces. I say we kick them out of OUR sandbox. They need their own sandbox . Apart from the obscene questions, there are questions regularly posted here which have no business here in the first place. You want to rail about divorce law then post your question in the "Law and Ethics" area NOT here. This is but one example but it is illustrative of a general pattern: these cranks post here for the express purpose of harassing and verbally abusing women. They post here because what they really want is to make trouble. This area has been taken over by these creeps. The boys are just not housebroken. They need their own own sandbox to poop in - they have no right to poop in ours. We should lobby Yahoo to get them their own sandbox to poop in.

WHAT IS WOMEN'S STUDIES?
Women's Studies is an academic discipline that grew out of social and cultural changes that took place in the 1960's and 1970's...
This program seeks to expand students' awareness of women's issues, concerns, contributions, and achievements. Such avenues of study have generated new insights and perspectives on established disciplines as well as identified social and cultural issues which otherwise have gone unnoticed.

Women's Studies differs from other fields in that its focus is to examine the experiences of women and scholarship by and about women from a critical perspective. This perspective fills in gaps of information, exposes misconceptions and discrimination, and questions conceptions of human society, values and culture.

Women's Studies stresses an interdisciplinary perspective and encourages the exploration of women's issues and the world through multiple disciplines. It is simultaneously a way to develop and enhance knowledge in one's own disci

So, “newarrayofhope”, this is a legitimate “question”? (recently asked by “Cassius”)

“Do you think Baba Yaga is a troll that wastes everybodies time and should be banned ?”

The fundamental difference is that I am NOT suggesting these cranks should be silenced (“banned” - as Cassius suggests those not sharing his “opinions” should be): I am saying they need their OWN sandbox in which to vent and play their narcissistic “alpha male” games.

Cool input, thanks! Yes, I find many inputs here stupid and disturbing and I am afraid that Yahoo will do nothing about that. Most posters seem to be either adolescent boys or frustrated freshly divorced men. Not intelligent, not interesting. That's why I don't hang out here much anymore.

I agee that men should have a mens studies place on yahoo, or whatever they decide to call it. I know it wont stop men from coming to this section and that is perfectly fine. Yahoo Answers is an open forum and anyone can ask or answer in any area. I know if there was a mens studies area, I'd be there checking it out and answering or asking, if I felt the urge.

If you're uhappy with some questions here, dont answer them. If you dont like an answer to any of your questions then dont take that advice, if it offends you AND falls outwith the Yahoo Answers guidelines, then report it.

Lets face it though, if it wasn't for those men you speak of, you'd really not have much to say in this part of yahoo answers would you? ;-) You thrive on it. You like to answer those men and even follow one particular member around specifically to respond to him or you ask questions directly relating to him. Obviously this is my opinion only and I'm not trying to be offensive, just saying what I see.

If you want this area to be about womens studies, be the person who asks about womens issues, not the one who responds to the things you allegedly dislike so much. You have the right to say what you want about men, they in turn have the right to say what they want about women.

Let me know if you need numbers on your 'give men their own sandbox' petition, I'll sign.

EDIT: Rio Madeira came up with a good petition to send to YA, I've signed, will you?

Women's studies is doing its job. Women (and men) are asking legitimate questions in an effort to better understand themselves and others around them. Yes, there are plenty of people who are obscene and disruptive, but there are many people like that posting on many forums. The best thing to do is flag them as being offensive, off topic, not answering the question, etc and to move on. We are better than them.

I havent notice any harassing questions, maybe some sexual childish ones. Anyway what would be a troubelsome abusive question to you ? I think divorce laws affect women as well. A lot of men are refusing to marry their sweetheart, many then start thinking something is wrong with them or he doesnt really love her, while it is neithier but just the law code beeing applied to husbands some men do not want expose themself to. Iam sure a lot of women will feel a lot better with that knowledge.

I am not a regular in this area--but I will comment. This all seems to be open to the public--just like life. I cannot imagine how anyone can prevent such questions or answers. As in real life, we need to learn to ignore lots of things. Oh, I do agree with you, but life is life. We need to learn to live with it or crawl into our own little world and vegetate. So sorry to be so blunt and no insult intended but just giving my opinion. Thank you Just take a deep breath and calm down and good luck. :)

Women's Studies is a serious academic discipline that can led to a good and practical career path in EEOC and Human Resources. The forum here DOES seem to be abused by young men. I do not know how to solve that problem, but this was a good first step. Other than reporting the abusers, which I do not usually do in general but would in this instance, I'm not sure what to do, I guess contacting the Yahoo folks who run this forum might help. It couldn't hurt so I'd try that. Anyway, even though I'm a much older man, I agree with your thoughts on this problem.

"The boys are just not housebroken."

I just find it amusing that a male feminist, someone who supposedly supports liberal values and tolerance and doesn't try to control people is the one getting all hysterical and upset because he can't censor alternate opinions on a public forum and advocates men being "housebroken".

Divorce law is a central area of concern for feminists and for women's studies, so this is an appropriate place. Attempting to control definitions will get you nowhere.

You're losing it buddy. Look at this post, it's hysterical. You've tried hard and you've failed because the answers service is based around obtaining a diverse range of opinions.

As Darth Vader said to Luke Skywalker in the Empire Strikes Back:

"You are beaten".

Deal with it already. "Take it like a maaaaaan".

Oh, gees, that's what Women STudies means!

We thought this was a place where we could test out things and see what the reaction was before we tried them out on wives and girlfriends.

You know, study women in advance...
