There is no way to tell if you copied the game or not. That's why the do it. You could take it home, copy the game in 20 minutes and bring it right back to the store. You can get them to exchange it for new though, but they will take the wrapper off. I took games in that actually didn't work (Best Buy and Walmart), and they exchanged for new games, but took the wrapper off in the store so I couldn't bring the game back for a cash refund.

This state of affairs has come about due to piracy.Unfortunately there are a lot of unscrupulous people out there who buy games take them home, copy them and then return them. There is no law against this practice of only offering a part refund. You can get a full refund if the goods bought are faulty but not if you have just decided that you do not like the goods or in the case of games have discovered that your system does not meet minimum requirements.

What there is a law against is buying computer software and using duplicating programs to copy the disks, photocopying the instructions, and then returning the product for a refund. That's called software piracy, and it amounts to stealing the game or whatever software was on the original disk.
Stores, (and software companies) found out a long time ago that they needed to protect themselves from taking a total bath from consumer theft.
That's why so many programs will only run with the disk in the drive, why so many games also want you to "subscribe" to an online version for an extra cost, and why stores Will Not take back opened software packages.

This is annoying me too! I've buy a lot of games because I don't want to kill off the industry by using copied/pirate games but the amount I get home and complete in a few hours is ridiculous, I take them to exchange, sometimes the next day and they might have halved in value. No wonder people are turning to pirate copies!!
A few weeks ago I was in Gamestation, looking to buy Call of Duty 3, Brand new £39.99 and I couldn't believe the same game pre-owned, you have probably guessed £39.99 same price!!!
Some companies have definitely got our pants down!!

I agree with other users...to prevent you from going home and copying the game and returning it endlessly. I think that's a fair practice for both the stores and the video game industry. Video games are a fair price for what you get, whereas something like an audio CD is just a total rip off so much so that I cannot support that industry any longer.

You can get a full refund if the game is not working. If they don't then they are braking the law.

this is probably done to protect them from people who would buy the game and then copy it and return.
if it is purely because you don't like the game then they are within their rights
if the game is faulty then you can demand a replacement nd then a refund

you've already answered ur own question!
when u get a game from Game there's a wrapper on it.
if you take the wrapper off, there is no longer a wrapper on it.
if there's no wrapper on it, it clearly isn't new
if it isn't new, Game cant sell it as new!!

they used to have a 10 day no worry guarantee where you could take it back no questions asked, but alot of people used to complete the game in 10 days and then just take it back and swap it in store or get there money back and they used to lose money from this
