america is NOT what its cracked up to be, huge numbers of poverty, alot of rude people, and before long with the way the government is going.... its going to be at war.. and you dont want to be there when it does that, the best place ive found to be is canada.. they make sure you work for a living and look after you, they are polite and realistic.. generally

I hate the media.

Most Americans do not walk around with guns (many don't even own one), "gangstas" are just a small part of inner city society and the rest of us tend to laugh at how foolish they are...quite frankly, they are an embarrassment.

Maniacs going mental? Not sure this is innate to the U.S. and we have little control over what the morons in government do.

The U.S. has it's share of issues but in general, the people are of a kind and generous nature, we do not thrive on violence and yeah, for the most part it's a good place to raise kids.

I wish the public schools offered a better education and I wish our health care system would see a reform but one could do a lot worse than the U.S.

After all, why else would so many foreigners fight so hard to live here after all this time if we were actually the giant monster that the media evidently likes to portray?

Russia is not without its problems; many of them inherited from the communist years. Corruption and a well organised criminal-class are never far away, but then, they are also never far away in America.

Moscow is now a very expensive city, but across the board, people are not well off in Russia, unless they happen to be the lucky oligarcs who grabbed what they could during the Yelstin fiasco years.

However, the quality of life has improved, and if one were to look at the average Russian way of existence, you would soon discover that families are close, people tend to behave well, they are often very well educated and tend to be quite friendly.

In terms of health-care, science and education, Russia is among the best......they don't build nuclear-power plants and send people up in space by reading comic books.

With absolutely VAST oil, mineral and gas resources, plus a huge amount of timber, Russia is possibly going to be THE place to live in the future, and when the Russians have mastered the world of business and finance, as they surely will, it will be a country which will do extremely well for itself 15-20 years on from now.

Of course, when it comes to serious authors and quality classical music composers, America is far inferior to Russia.

America is big and has the biggest of everything, including the Good the Bad and the Ugly. You can find each of these depending on your own way of life and the kind of friends you mix with. But that doesn't make it the worst place to live in. On the contrary, America remains to be the country which has the best of everthing!

Russia cannot be compared with the USA at all. All the bad things you mentioned are to be found in Russia and are increasing on daily basis from worse to even more worse, but very little of the good things!

I say this and I am neither American nor Russian! I simply state the obvious!

What you see on the news and what you speak of in this question does not happen as often as the media makes it seem. I am an American and life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is still alive here. Yes we have our problems and they are very serious ones, but there are still many places in this great country to raise a family free from the stuff you see in the media.
I believe Russia has it worse. They have more corruption, abuse of power, crime, etc. Russia is still a very unstable and young democracy.

Russia is absolutely great for people who love to wait in line. We had a Russian kid here who came to Wal-mart and wanted some inline skates, he was freaking out that we didn't buy them the time he saw them.. In Russia if you see something you like, you better buy it NOW because it won't be there later.
If you honestly want to live there, like the other person wrote in their reply, be a millionaire, hire tons of body guards and hope you still don't get kidnapped or assassinated.

Russia is great place to live as long as you're a millionaire, have the right connections and no political ambitions whatsoever.
