it needs turning off i think a garage is the only way to do it

If your airbag light is on there is a fault that needs looked into by a Volvo dealer.

easiest way to turn out the light is to fix the problem that turned the light on in the first place. removing the bulb or covering it with tape doesn't fix anything and may make it worse if and when you need the airbag. if the light is on, it may not work if you need it. take it to volvo or an import shop and have them check it out.

You need to have the problem investigated, it's no good trying to kill the light, you might be killing yourself!
By the by, the airbag light is the only warning light that's currently part of the MOT.

i had the same problem keep a look out 4 the abs light too, it could be youre alternator is on it's way out i'm affraid.because the alternator belt drives the abs and there is an inbuilt safety device to act as an early warning system for the airbag.

It comes on to tell you that you have a fault with the airbag or the seat belt pre-tensioners, it needs a scanner to diagnose the fault and do turn it off. a scanner is a piece of equipment that communicates with the car.

You cant as others ahve already said. But you need to have it seen to ASAP. Sometimes the bag will engage without impact occuring .
I hired a car in NZ and the warning light came on as i was driving. I ranh the hire company and they said it would be OK and to take it to one of their service areas 25ks further out. However 5ks down the road it deployed both bags without any further adoo and nearly casued us to collide with a truck. the company gave us free hire for two weeks and the RCV chap said when the light comes on its sometimes a hazard that needs immediate attention and not to take it lightly.

Hi there,
You can't erase the airbag warning lamp on your s80, it has to be erased using diagnostic equipment, sorry then again if YOU had the diagnostic equipment the YOU could.

Only by using diagnostic equipment.
Volvo garages have them but you pay through the nose.
