Obviously, many homosexual children are raised by heterosexual parents and many heterosexual children are raised by homosexual parents. Therefore, the concept of "nurtured" sexual orientation is indisputably proven false. The idea of someone "choosing" to be homosexual in a social environment which looks down upon and belittles them is absurd.
It is clearly a natural inbred issue.

There is abundant evidence that this is a genetic difference. Those programs that claim to "cure" homosexuality have a certain amount of short-term success because gay people don't enjoy being dumped on by all those idiots who tell them that it's sinful and try to escape that, but the longterm success rate is close to zero.
Many boys go through a homosexual developmental phase that is not permanent - obvious they can be "cured" because they weren't really gay to begin with! But if you're born gay, the best thing to do is accept it and try to ignore the sickos who try to tell you that you have something that needs to be cured. Someday maybe homophobia will become a historical oddity that no longer exists - I hope so.

On balance, probably nature but with an overlay of personal choice. Studies have shown that there is a continuum of sexuality. Some people are primarily gay, some mostly hetero and others inbetween. Some people are born gay, some people who are attracted to both men and women may choose a gay or hetero lifestyle.

to be honest with you its a combination of things that make up who we are as people. every factor, environment, parents, grandparents, siblings, neighbors, friends, family, school where we live. these things affect who we are then, now and tomorrow. and those factors effect every person differently even if you live in the same household. you can grow up with loving parents and have one kid who is a gangster and one who is a straight A student. one kid who is gay and the other one not. we are all different with different temperaments. we need to just respect all of our differences and embrace it. cause we are all God's children and even though we don't know his purpose we are the way we are for a reason.

I've read on Y!Answers that apparently people are born with a gay gene and that's just the way they are. It's only new evidence though and I hadn't heard much about it previously.
