Depends after how long? One day? One week? If you don't have a lid it will evaporate more quickly. Is it near an open window or door where it's getting a breeze? Maybe you have a leak?

In wintertime, evaporation might increase because the air might be dry due to the heaters being used. If you can control the water flow in your filter, lower it some. Also, cover the aquarium with a good lid to reduce evaporation.
I live in Ca where it is quite dry and always add about a gallon of water every two days to my two tanks (5 gl and a 10 gl).
Good luck!

Is there a lid on the tank? If not the water is indeed evaporating, just like a puddle on the ground, the air movement will convert the water back into vapour over time and become what we call humidity.

It is evaporating! You have to add more water! Don't forget to remove the chlorine first. You can get something called de-chlor at the pet food section in your supermarket or pet food store.
