Heading down to Florida with the rest of the March Break crew again this year and figure we will spend a day in Virginia/North Carolina before heading off to the Jacksonville Zoo. So far we have only come up with touring Myrtly Beach...
Anything off the tourist books that would be totally great for a family of 6?
Thanks

Great ideas! - The battleship in Wilmington was on the list of possibilities - my husband stopped on his way back from golfing this past fall - I have four boys ranging from 2 - 12 so although its still on the short list for the older folks who are still playing with army men in the sand banks during summer months the youngin' might just be bored - but then again - a family vacation cant be perfect for everyone all the time - am I right:)

In Winston Salem NC there is Old Salem ( Moravian culture). In Spencer NC there is the NC Transportation Museum (Trains and locomotives everywhere). The Raleigh/Durham and Chapel Hill area you have The University of North Carolina, Duke University. Both have beautiful campuses. In Mantoe on the coast East of Raleigh you have "The Lost Colony" settlement. Then you have the Outer-banks (Cape Hatteras area). Great fishing area. Though now you have to have NC State Fishing License. There you have the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Then in Ocracoke you have a couple of smaller Lighthouses. In the same area you have The Wright Brother's Memorial in Kill Devil Hills. There you also have the "Gravedigger Monster Truck Museum". In Wilmington NC you have the USS North Carolina. A WWII battleship. Wilmington has a flower festival (Can not remember the dates). In March the weather can be somewhat unpredictable (could be hot, warm, cold, or rainy).

Rock city NC is interesting. but if you want something truly different there is a Sumter park in SC that has an old civil war railroad tunnel. Just be sure to wear boots and have a good flashlight. It is not located in the town of Sumter but on the other side of the state . Contact the state of SC tourism to get directions( ido not remember where it is exactly as it has been 25 yrs since I was there)

I would suggest Colonial Williamsburg or Luray Caverns in Virginia.
