I have been told by the council that as a lone parent currently out of work, I can find my own landlord to rent from. Can this be a family member?

With housing benefit I don't think it can be a family member, I recently asked the job centre about this and in order to receive it you need to be living away from home, if your renting from a family member I`m not 100% sure if you`ll be eligible.... However if you ask your local DSS (Department of Social Security) they may shed some more light on this in a better way or visit:

www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk

I can`t say that I`ve been to the website but they may have further information about Housing benefits.... Hope that this was of some help and good luck...

No. You will be asked on the forms if the landlord is a relative. If you lie & claim the housing benefit & get found out you will be in the proverbial sh@t up to your eyeballs!!!!!!!! Best to either rent from someone else or be honest
