Let m=mother´s age s= son´s age
Mother was 27 when I was born will be equal to:
m= s + 27
Eq 1: m - s = 27
8 years ago she was twice the age I would be if I was 5 years older will be equal to:
m - 8 = 2(s+5)
Eq 2: m - 2s = 18
Eq 1 - Eq 2: m - s = 27
-m + 2s =-18
-------------------
s = 9 -----> he is 9 years old
The mother therefore will be 36 years. Eight years ago, the mother was 28, and the son will be 14 years if he was 5 years older. 14x2 = 28, so the second condition works!

let your age today be A
then your mum's age today is (A + 27)
if you are 5 years older, then you should be (A +5)
and 8 year ago, your mum was A +27 -8 = A + 19
A + 19 = 2 x (A + 5)
A + 19 = 2A + 10; 19 -10 =2A -A
9 =A
you are 9 nine years today

Let your age be X so mother is X + 27
8 years ago the age of your mum would be X + 19
If you were 5 years older, your age would be X + 5
X + 19 = 2(X + 5)
X + 19 = 2X + 10
X = 9
You are 9 years old.

You are seventeen.
All you have to do is solve the equation that describes what is said above to get your mum's age, then subtract 27, and add eight to bring it up to the present day..
Therefore,
x-8 = 2(x-27+5)
x-8 = 2(x-22)
x-8 = 2x-44
x=2x-36
0=x-36
x=36, so eight years ago mum was thirty-six, you were nine, and are now seventeen.

Let x be your mum's age now and y be your age now.
x = y + 27 -----(1)
(x - 8) = 2(y - 8 + 5) ------(2)
Substitute (1) into (2),
(y + 27 - 8) = 2(y - 3)
y + 19 = 2y - 6
19 + 6 = 2y - y
25 = y
You are now 25 years old.

You are seven.
27+5=32 (she would be 32, if you were 5 yrs older),
32-8=24 (she was 24 8 yrs ago),
24:2=12 (you would have been 12 being half as old as her)
12-5=7 (but you are really 5 yrs younger than 12)
Is this true?

let
x=mothers age
y =my age
mom was 27 when i was born, so......
x - y = 27 --------------> eq 1
8 yrs ago she was twice my age five yeas from now, so...
(x-8) = 2 * (y+5) -------> eq 2
simplifying eq 2,
x - 2y = 18 ------------> eq 3
x - y = 27 --------> eq1
x - 2y = 18 ------> eq 3
subtracting eq 3 from eq 1,
we get y = 9
I am nine years old

Hmmmmm... I got that you are between 31 and 32, and that your mum is now about 58. Be buggered how I'd explain it though.
