'Cos it's sealed so that air doesn't react with it causing it to dry. Also it's very dense, as opposed to when you try to glue something you only use a little bit.

Glue requires air to dry, and it doesn't stick until it has dried. The container is airtight. If you left the lid off, the glue inside which has been exposed to the air would dry and stick.

Glue bonds by way of a chemical reaction. Oxygen is typically a main ingredient in this reaction. Without it, no reaction, no bond. Check out the link provided regarding "how glue works", very interesting.

i always thought that glue reacted with the air, and soon as no air can get into the tub, it doesnt stick to the sides....

For the same reason that paint doesn't (normally) dry in the can, or ink in your pen. Exposure to air is required.

I don't know...but I do know that after a couple of years I dries in the bottle....
