I had the Mirena IUD inserted on the 3rd of my period. I had no pain and love my IUD. I have had 5 kids so insertion was a breeze for me.

Good luck!

i had a mirena IUD fitted just after mentruation and it was a little uncomfortable alot like a pap smear and I experienced cramping during insertion and for a liitle while afterwards it only takes a minute or so to insert and is quite painless (only uncomfortable) I had a natural birth so I am not sure about that part be prepared for abnormal periods for about 12 weeks afterwards. Hope that helps a bit

Having it inserted during your period or directly after your period is the same thing. The reason why they do this is your cervix is slightly dilated at this time and insertion will not be as painful this will also reassure your DR that you are not pregnant.

It feels like a reg pap smear I would advice taking 1 ibuprofen 30 min before your appointment just in case
