For the past month my computer continues to freeze, I am also recieving error reports and messages from windows telling me that my computer has been through a Critical time.
Over the last two months I have installed Firefox which I had to get rid of because my computer was never the same since I installed it, at the moment I have installed CA security, Zone alarm, and even though they say my computer had critical things on them that they had cleared up, my computer still freezes up.
Can anyone advise me on how to solve this problem??????
Thanks!!

I have done System Restore, and my memory is fine..I have used 13.0 GB and have 219 GB free. Its a brand new computer only a year old or so, and hardly ever used for anything.

try using your recovery discs so you can wipe the offending files, you might also add more ram if you are running a high percentage of programs.

a issue that comes to mind is that you have ca security and zonealarm
if you are running 2 firewalls at same time that can cause conflicts, i would use zonealarms and not ca's
anyway could be a memory issue
if you click my computer (click start) and than click on c-dirve in box (left click) than properties a box will appear and will tell you how much free space you have and total memory etc.... (also where error check is)
if your memory is low than that is a main reason for the freezing of your pc
if memory is ok than i would say its a software problem
gte regcleaner standard www.tweaknow.com
run it and clean what it says is safe to delete in custom mode/expert
this will help clear up some space as well
i would than run the error check

This advice is on the assumption you do not have viruses.
Simple, seems your computer needs more RAM or more memory. Example your computer may have come with 256MB like mine, but then in time it started to freeze. I put two 512 MB modules in and I have had not one problem of freezing.
Zone Alarm is a good anti-virus so if you ran it and still freezing then try the above memory boost.

Software related issue
A computer locking up or freezing is often is caused by a software related issue. If you're encountering lockups when the computer is opening a particular program, make sure you have all the latest updates for that program. You can find the latest updates for your software through the software developer or publisher.
Driver related issue
A computer lock up can also be caused by drivers. For example, if there is an issue that exists with your video drivers a computer could lock up while playing a game or displaying any other type of video. Make sure you have the latest drivers for all major devices in your computer (video, sound, modem, and network). A listing of driver related pages as well as driver related help can be found on our drivers page.
Operating system related issue
Make sure your operating system has all of the latest updates installed on it.
Heat related issue
If the computer processor is getting too hot it can cause the computer to freeze. If you have heard any abnormal noises coming from your computer recently such as a high squealing, this could indicate a fan may be failing in your computer.
You can first start by verifying the fan on the power supply is working by examining the back of the computer and seeing if the fan is moving and moving smoothly. For all other fans in the computer you will need to either open the computer and make sure the fan are working (processor fan and case fan) and/or if your BIOS monitors the RPM of the fans, enter BIOS and make sure the BIOS does not report any errors.
Users may also be able to determine how hot their computer is by onboard thermal sensors. If your computer comes equipped with these sensors, make sure your CPU is not running too hot.
Hardware issue
In addition to software, hardware can also cause a computer to lock. If you have recently added any new hardware into the computer, try temporarily removing it to make sure it is not the cause of your issue.
Before attempting to remove any hardware, make sure you are not encountering this issue because of hardware conflicts by viewing device manager for errors. Additional information about device manager can be found on our device manager page.
If you have not recently installed any new hardware into the computer, the next best solution to determining if this is a hardware issue would be remove any hardware on the computer that is not needed. For example, remove your modem, network card, sound card, and any other expansion cards that are not needed for the computer to operate. Run the computer without these cards to see if they are the cause of your issue.
Note: When opening the computer, make sure you are aware of ESD and its potential dangers. See our ESD page for additional information.
Serious issue with Windows
If you have tried all the above recommendations and the computer continues to frequently lock up, its possible that Windows may be seriously corrupt. Try running through the basic troubleshooting steps for your version of Windows on our basic troubleshooting page. If these additional steps do not resolve your issue, we suggest you backup all information and erase and reinstall Windows on your computer.
Hardware failure
If after reinstalling your operating system, or during the installation of your operating system, your computer turns off abnormally, it is very likely that other hardware is failing in the computer. Often this is RAM, CPU, Motherboard, and/or Power Supply (in that order).
If you have extra available parts or have a friend or co-worker with a similar configuration that is willing to allow you to test their hardware in your computer, try swapping these parts to determine if they are at fault. Otherwise, you will need to have the computer serviced.

Your computer probably has a heck lot of spywares. If you are noticing alot of pop ups lately, it is the spywares that are causing your computer to freeze. Otherwise your computer might have seen its last days. Lol, J/k. If you take it to a local computer store, tell 'em to clean the hard drive. Make sure you keep a backup of all your needed files and your computer will be like *click click click*

Maybe you need more memory. With all the programs you have installed and running, they could be eating up your memory, leaving little memory left to run other programs.
Memory and hard drive storage are 2 different things. And ad ware is a dangerous program to have installed.

My advice...Restore your computer!
Here is what you do:
Go to your start menu/all programs/accessories/system tools/system restore- Follow the instructions on the screen and go back to a date BEFORE you started having problems. This should correct the issue.
Quick, easy, and-in most cases- works like magic!

You can either screw with it for ever and waist your time, or just re-format, re-install, and put a credible firewall,anti-spyware/malware and antivirus program. You've gotta remember that when it comes to these virus's/malware 90% of them come from people who are trying to get you to spend money on their product to make it go away. Yes there are scripts to get rid of your problem of course, but chances are you will mess with it all damned day, and imho it's easier just to start fresh
