ok.. so if you believe in the big band theory.. who put the materials there in space to create the big bang? so did god create the big bang? think about it and tell me what your thoughts..

so how did 'natural' things come about at the beginning of time? and was there such a thing as the universe at the beginning of time?

plus i never said that i thought they were 'mutually exclusive'.. it was just a thought! can people not have opinions around here?!

Great question and of course you are making THE most important comment in my view.

The Big Bang theory is very logical. Science deals with observations and logic to reach conclusions. Logic in turn is based on the 'cause & effect' assumption based on our consistent observation of all changes that we perceive. Big Bang theory reaches the point of singularity, meaning that anything that was or happened before the Big Bang can not be ascertained mathematically... it just could be any possibility.

This means that what caused Bifg Bang can not be logically ascertained. If a cause is not logically ascertainable, it can well be a causative will rather than any link in the normal cause and effect chain.

Therefore, I too believe that the Big Bang ought to have been caused by an independent will.... this will must be so powerful that creates this great universe out of nothing...... both time and space would have had zero dimensions at the point of singularity. Such will can only belong to an Entity that is an ever continuum without any beginning or end so that it can create time and has limitless presence or reach to create space out of nothing and obviously unlimited power and knowledge to be able to fructify such a will...... in other words to one who is eternal, omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient.... and that is how we rightly define God!!

Hats off to the Big Bang theory which has indeed made me understand God in my own way and much more convincingly than ever before!!

Big bands are cool. I don't know there was a "big band theory".

Seriously: I think of the natural universe as being "God". How it was created is a miracle, even if it is completely natural. To assume that somebody had to put the materials there for it to happen is just that - an assumption - maybe it "just happened" and is a completely natural event. As I wasn't there at the first instant of time and couldn't possibly observe it, I will never know for sure.

Either way, Big Bang Theory or Creationism Your question cannot be answered logically. We cannot conceive of pre existence of nothing into something for there to be nothing there has to be something. The need for a belief system helps us to justify our existence and provides us with a hope that there is a purpose to our very being. But i agree it would be interesting to really know how it all started.

You are absolutely right! I have never understood why why people would believe that belief in god and acceptance of science would be mutually exclusive ideas. Isn't it rational to think that an Omnipotent being could create a logic so that man could understand more intricately God's handy work?

No one knows for sure. All we can do is theorize. But it stands to reason that you can't get something from nothing. So the Big Bang theory doesn't hold up on its own. There had to be a First Cause. Some eternal entity that brought things into being. I choose to call that supreme force God.

"Taking the Big Bang theory in the simplistic definition. The universe was primarily a dark void until about 15 billion years ago a tremendous explosion started the expansion of the universe." No. That's not the Big Bang theory at ALL.

This question is impossible to answer with our present information and comprehension.
If you assume that because something exists, that it must have had a creator, then you must ask yourself "what created god?"
If you think that god has always (for our given meaning of always) been, then why couldn't the things that we can actually see have always (again, for our given concept) been?

Why vs.? God did the big bang! If not, creation is 'godless, goalless, scattershot, haphazard' (Lamb). A Creator God means life is meaningful and valuable.

God created all things. You can't put sand, water and pond goo in a cup and make something come to life. It took a supernatural God to create life.
