Several years ago I needed to have my vintage 1920's player piano moved on two separate occasions.

I paid roughly $100 to $125. on the first move and paid roughly 20% more some ten years later. Each time the piano was moved under 5 miles.

On both occasions I used a certified piano mover who only moves pianos. Both times I paid insurance fees which learned would pay according to how much my piano weighed if it were to be dropped.

I was fortunate in that I was able to get a really good recomendation and references from a business associate. I learned that like all movers they all have a basic price plus mileage and it depends on how many men are needed to move your piano. I would therefore expect today to pay close to $200.- $235 for a short move under 5 miles.

Sometimes I know the mover I used offers a lower rate if you are willing to combine your move with another person's move and they can then put two pianos in one truck. At the end of the day I was much happier having my prized piano in a truck strapped down by it's lonesome where no chance of another piano coming loose could damage it. I would proceed as cautiously as possible.

um...from where to where?? the companies that do that kind of thing usually have a minimum charge, you will have to ask them that. then if over a certain set distance, they charge by the mile.

DO NOT USE THE CHEAPEST ONE IF YOU WANT THE PIANO IN GOOD SHAPE WHEN YOU GET IT.

Use a company that specializes in this, if you can find one. Ask at a place that sells pianos. if it is around town, they can probably do it for you. They know what they are doing, they do it all the time. Pay them whatever they ask, if you value the piano. it is not an easy job. if they have to get it upstairs or the like, it will cost more, doing that is a real pain. sometimes literally.

Some of the better moving companies can do an OK job of it. do not go to the cut rate ones.
