This has been bothering me all day. =) It's a book that I had when I was little, which means it came out in the 80's or earlier. It was a cardboard page book. I think it had a name similar to "good night book". I remember on one page there was the little girl sitting in her dad's lap and he was reading her a goodnight story. In the picture, there was a bowl of colorful candies in a dish. I also saw the book again on sale within the last few years, it must have been republished. Thank you if anybody can tell me what the name of this book is and who wrote it.

It's not "Goodnight Moon," there are no children in that book.

I'll edit my post if I find it for sure, but could it be the board book "My Goodnight Book" illustrated by Eloise Wilkin? On the cover is a little girl in pink pajamas and a blue bathrobe rubbing one eye with the back of one hand, and in the other hand holding a teddy bear. OK, I've just confirmed that there is a picture of a little girl sitting in her father's lap with a candy dish on the table next to them in the book I mentioned, "My Goodnight Book" by Eloise Wilkin. There are used copies for sale here: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0307122581/24680e-20
