They come across that way: complete fanatics, unwilling to discuss anything but ready to launch into personal attacks, covering their ears and shouting "LA LA LA LA" if someone says something even slightly different from what they believe to be true.

They're either not very smart children or adults who need to be sent to the funny farm.

I'm leaning more and more for the opinion that we're dealing with children here.

The fact that they are scanning my older posts to find something to try to make me feel bad for having posted this one is what someone 10-12 would do.

I sure hope these are not adults.

Why did you answer your own question? Looks to me like you want to insult people and that you too are expressing a strong opinion here that you would not be willing to change.

Having said that, maybe you're right (you see, I'm listening and evaluating your opinion) people come here to vent some anger, say what they think not share and learn - modern western society with all its focus on the individual has made us selifish and opinionated not taught us to respect others.

Then again, you might find that people are influenced and do alter their opinions it just takes a while to sink in and they don't want to admit that they were wrong.

"What to do if you're so ugly everybody hates you at first sight?
I'm not quite sure. I always thought of myself as quite average, but of late I'm coming to the realization that perhaps I'm a horrible grotesque used to my own appearance.

That would explain why no one has ever loved me or befriended me"

Look familiar? It should. It is from a post that you made.

You could be the ugliest troll on the planet but if you treat people with respect there are always going to be people who can see beyond that and want to befriend the person inside. When you ask questions like the one you did in this post it becomes even more clear as to why you have the issues you mentioned in the other post.

I am an adult and I am not mentally ill. I am not a fanatic and I am willing to discuss anything and I don't personally attack anyone. I may not always be the most congenial but based on my definition of a personal attack, I refuse to stoop to that level. I never shout La La La. I try to understand the points of view of people who believe differently than I do to the extent that I do a bit of research as to the kind of people that will ask questions in the way they do. I really expected to find that you were a young person when researching your other posts. I was surprised that this question came from an adult. What does that say.

If you want to bring about sincere exchanges of opinions and ideas than you have to stick to that. By asking this question in the inflamatory way that you have you just contribute to what you are complaining about.

To answer your question though, No, I do not believe that most Cons or Libs are mentally ill. I do believe that most Libs lack a sense of reality and maturity.

PS..
It was not my intent to make you feel bad. I was making an observation and a point. You are the one attacking, not I.

Well you are among the group that you are calling mentally ill. That does not say a lot for you.
It has been my experience that the only difference between a child and an adult is the right to buy booze.I am 43 and most adults stop all mental aging at around 16.They look older and they have experience but the mind is still that of the 16 year old.

Although I agree with you, I must also post a brief explanation. This country-US- has never in its history with the exception of the Civil War, been as polarized as it is now. Not even during the Viet Nam era did I see such hatred emanating from the opposing parties. The "Uniter" became the "Decider" who decided to disunite us. Arrogance and ignorance coupled with dillusions of grandeur have condemned us to what you now experience. The decline and fall of Pax Americana.

No! They are not mentally ill. The fact is it is so easy to see the flaws in others and the way others believe. Rather then seeing the flaws in ourselves and our own views. Not many people can be objective when their passions are overflowing. Politics can be a very passionate subject.

It comes from both sides of the political fence.

Although I disagree with you, I must post a brief explanation. This country was far more polarized during the Vietnam war, although not as much as the civil war.
During the Vietnam Era I saw hatred emanating from the people opposed to the war, to the point of spitting on veterans as they returned from combat in Vietnam.
The "Uniter has engendered such psychotic hatred with the arrogance and ignorance of the liberals not allowing them to listen to anyone else's point of view. The incredible delusions or grandeur most liberals experience cause them to hold most conservatives in contempt and engage in grossly personal attacks against conservatives.
The decline and fall of "Pax Americana" were as much to blame on Clinton and his draw-down of the military and his decisions to leave the United States unprepared for world conflict.
To blame Bush for 9/11 attacks is the latest tactic of the radical liberals, along with the aforementioned personal attacks.
You can see from Yahoo Answers posters like "Bush is Hitler" that the liberals tolerate little deviance from their course also.
In fact, the most amusing thing is that liberals can't even admit they don't merely tolerate others viewpoints, they refuse to listen.
I will grant you the war in Iraq is a mess, but we have to deal with it, there are closed minded conservatives as well as liberals, but most liberals seem to be more emphatic and intolerant.

The worst contribution liberalism has made was by eliminating personal responsibility we have raised two successive generations where nothing is their fault and they are the victims of smoking, alcoholism, drugs, society, circumstance, too many spankings, not enough discipline, and the list goes on and on.

Without personal responsibility society cannot function.

Can you provide an example of that? Just because someone has a strong opinion, doesn't mean they are close minded you know.
