I have tried using bleach and weed killing spray, however it doesnt seem to touch the surfice. The size of the weed is about the size of a small football, and I have snapped all of the branches off. Any suggestions?

Try glyphosate, found in Tumbleweed or Roundup. You can get the stronger glyphosate from garden centres.

weed killer will work but you have to leave the leaves and branches alone. Don't snap them off it prevents that poison from getting in. I recommend Roundup. It is a systemic killer. That is is gets into the plant through the leaves and precludes the root system from absorbing moisture. So spray it and leave it alone. Usually in one week it will start to turn yellow. In two weeks you will notice it starting to die pretty good. Within 4 weeks it should be pretty shriveled and brown. At that point you can cut it off. You could even try a second application of weed killer after the first week. Just rememebr let the leaves stay on, that's what delivers the poison.

As a former golf course IPM technician, I often had to find tricks to get rid of weeds that were resistant to normal chemicals. Here's a combination that should work wonders if you can find all of the components. You might need to see if there's a wholesale chemical supplier that also will sell to the public, like one that Lesco has in Tampa.

In a three-gallon hand sprayer, mix nine ounces of glyphosate at professional strength, three ounces of diquat at professional strength, and an appropriate amount of pre-emergent herbicide. The glyphosate attacks the weed by the root. The diquat attacks the weed at the leaves and stems, and the pre-emergent inhibits root growth to keep the weed from sprouting back.

if you use roundup which you can get any any good garden centre it will work great. all u have to do is spray the weed it is absorbed through the leave and travels down to the roots where it will kill the weed. remember it is best doing this in the growing season.

PS don't snap off any more branches the fact this weed is growing is the secret roundup will be so effective

I personally do'nt like using poisonous stuff. Bad for the environment, and it also involves health risk for yourself and your family. Plus the risk that chemicals damage your wall; make it weaker, or just leave stains.
So my idea would be: handcraft + hot water.
Continue breaking parts of, use a screwdriver, or knife (or even a small axe) to get as much plant material detached from your wall. Then use boiling water (or hot steam) to kill the last bits. There are no plants that can survive this temperature for long. And your wall and health are not at risk; it is just water.
Good Luck
Dr. Aram

ps: maybe combine this with the painting idea: cover the last bits up with cloth, paint or cement, to keep it from gaining size again.

What weedkiller did you use? Round up is supposed to get right down to the roots. However if it's in a wall it might work better to inject the weedkiller into the stem at the base then it won't just run away from the weed down the wall!

pour boiling water on it and let it seep into the roots, it will kill it and stop it coming back, i've done this for all our weeds in our pathway and its worked a charm!

Cut off the weed and paint the stump with OIL or paste some GREASE on it. It will die off in no time.

try very strong salt water, boiling in fact. make sure it penetrates into cut openings. Just pour thick salt water on it daily.

If that doesn't work pour a little lighter fluid and torch it carefully.
