You need a domain name which will cost you about £6 for 2 years for a .co.uk. The hosting, as long as you restrict your bandwidth to 100mb per month (which on most small sites is easy), can be done for free by setting up a freehosting account with heart internet (probably one of many companies). You really need help to achieve good results with the search engines, and that doesn't come free! But with the company I am using, I am also generating an income from my site, and making a profit.....

Can't you just put your website up free on yahoo geocities, tripod or freewebs and then just add your URL to google that way at http://www.google.co.uk/addurl/?hl=en&continue=/addurl ? That works, doesn't it? Or am I being unbelievably thick here?
