It's rather simple. Eighteen year olds are capable of killing the enemy and defending themselves, but they are not generally able to handle their liquor.

I agree with the philosophy from experience. Don't take it literally though, you can drink on the post, and overseas, just not in uniform in the civilian world under the age of 18 here in the States. Because it is too young and causes disrespect for the uniform as well as you in it. you might run into a situation of people who in fact are not sturdy character, and start a squabble and then because you are under age but in a uniform it becomes a double standard. The debate would be why cant all 18 year olds drink and why do they have to be in uniform? Get it?
Besides why should any 18 year old be hanging in a bar anyway? Get a drink at home it is much cheaper. I am sorry I must make a correction about being too young, what I meant was it is too young if you are not in the military. And yet being in the military it makes you know you are a soldier and must obey so you are more mature to know you don't want to be party to a ruckus about ages and stages of those not in the military. They are too young and it is illegal for them so it has to be for you as well except on the base, or in your home because you are mature.

That my friend has been my question for years, when I returned home from Viet Nam I was not yet 21 and not allowed in most bars, somehowever let me in and didn't care if I was in uniform, to e if you can vote, fight and die for our country you should be able to have a drink, the fault actually lies with some of the fundamentalist religious groups who consider drinking a sin, but war is okay with them as they sing onward Christan soldiers

we may all be better off without warfare & without beer. Why ought to Cindy McCain be allowed to make a fortune promoting a recommendations replacing chemiical that's pretty addictive at the same time as a foul baby leads to reformatory? All of this isn't is carried out for greed & the republican party is in the back of all of it. maximum republicans do not make a penny off of it they basically are brainwashed with information from the right wing media to rigidity about the human beings who do make the money. I save in recommendations the same question being on my recommendations at the same time as i turned right into a teenager & i'm probable on the fringe of your dad and mom age. the answer is greed. we do not favor better human beings ingesting in this u . s . a .. Alcohol causes better deaths than the different drug & that's a drug.

WHEN IN SERVICE, YOU OLD ENOUGH TO WEAR THE UNIFORM YOU ARE OLD ENOUGH TO DRINK......
WHEN YOU ARE ON BASE THERE IS AN OFFICERS CLUB THAT SERVES YOU DRINKS.
WHEN YOU ENLISTED YOU WERE GIVEN A MILITARY I.D.
OVERSEAS IN GERMANY THAT CARD IS PRICELESS
AND OPENS DOORS TO EVERYTHING, INCLUDING DRINKING.
NOW IF YOU STATESIDE, OUT OF UNIFORM, THEN YOU PROLLY WONT GET SERVED DRINKS.
CAUSE EACH STATE HAS THAT 21 LAW, BUT ON BASE YOU CAN DRINK.
SO GET OVER THE CAN SERVE BUT CANT DRINK BS.
I CAME BACK STATESIDE GOING TO TX, IN FULL DRESS BLUES AND I WAS OFFERED A DRINK FROM THE STEWARDESS I TOLD HER I WASNT 21, SHE STILL OFFERED IT TO ME CAUSE SHE KNEW I JUST GOT STATESIDE FROM DESERT STORM, THANKS TO THAT LADY.
