4.5- 4.7 billion years. Forget the Creationist's twaddle. There are some sensible Christians about ( honest! )
"Studies of plant life, animal life, and human life available in centuries past were primitive, to say the least. Concepts commonplace today in the world of physics, subatomic physics, astrophysics, and cosmology would have drawn from Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, to say nothing of the author of the Book of Genesis, nothing except blank stares of incredulity."

The oldest rock on earth so far found is dated to about 3.8 billion years. Now it took considerable time for the earth to cool down considerably from its initial gaseous to a liquid phase and then to form the first hard rock in Archaean nuclei. So a tentative 4.6 billion years + age for the earth is more or less right.

too old for anyone to know. I'm not kidding. because of plate tectonics we can never precisely tell how old the earth really is because the plates recycle themselves, so carbon dating is hopelessly impossible.
