No, this is common and traditional practice in some Hispanic cultures. I am somewhat old-fashioned, so I took on my husband's last name. I always did say, though, that if I married somebody with a name like Smith or Jones, I would keep my maiden name (Hutchinson). It's because I am very proud of it and my heritage, not for any feminist reason. To each their own; it's none of our business.............

Why would it ?? The name belongs to the woman she can write it, spell it, pronounce it anyway she wants to....that's none of our botherations. There're many women who still retains their maiden name after marriage. I've a friend who still retains her "maiden" name even after seven years of marriage though it was never intentional but its kind of strange that somehow it has been that way. And it has never bothered anyone-not their family. Not even her husband. and yes she loves HER name the way it is. And I know for sure that if she had ever taken her spouse name, she would've still retained her "maden" name and add his name next to it.

btw, we're in 21st century now so I strongly recommend you change your attitude towards women. otherwise you're seriously running a risk of proving yourself a misfit and worse yet people would think you're from jungle.(no offence intended)

It doesn't offend me....but I think its rather odd. Feminist or something. Of course its different in different cultures, we're just used to how it is done in the US. Personally, I'd rather take my husbands name, instead of trying to hold on to whatever identity or independence keeping your old name represents. After all, we're supposed to leave the house of our father (our maiden name) and form a household with our new husband

It doesn't offend me but I do feel that when a family is started it makes it feel more like a unity when everyone in the family has the same name.

No it doesn't.When I marry I expect the man to have my last name hyphenated.

I wouldn't hyphenate my name but I won't change it either.
My name is my name and I am just as proud of my name as you are of yours.
I wouldn't expect you to change your name to the woman's last name.

why would it?

you need to not worry about other people's relationships and work on developing a 21st century outlook on the relationship between a man and a woman.
