If you are laid off due to lack of work, such as a seasonal job or the business closes down you can qualify with no problem. You may sometimes be able to get it if you were fired or quit, depends on the circumstances but you usually have to serve a waiting period. You must also be able and willing to work, and actively searching. You must also have made enough money in the previous quarter to qualify. It used to be 900.00, but not sure if it is still the same. You can always appeal the decision if you are denied. Hope that helps!

First, you have to have not been working for 1 week. That is the waiting period. You can usually collect if you have been layed off of a job that (I believe this is correct) is at least 20 hrs per week or more. And while you collect, you must be actively looking for employment. You can probably collect if you have been fired, if you were fired for an unfair reason. Although, I have heard of someone who was able to collect after being fired even though they got fired for a good reason. I don't recall the exact circumstances. You can call the EDD and have them send you a pamplet on all the facts regarding collecting unemployment or log on to the website.. (don't know the address for that, sorry)

Good luck.
