Basically, you're never too old. There are no more health risks for transitioning at a later age, except for the general health risks that are always there for older people.
I know many older people who have gotten sex changes late in life, and are quite happy.

Right in terms of so many years having passed? I believe yes, absolutely. Some folks aren't able until later to address or deal with that. You get there when you get there. Like a vacation, or going back to school, you do it for yourself, and the "you" is ageless, it's on the inside.

22, 52, 72, whenever! You're never too old to be yourself. Plus, you have that many less years with side effects from hormones (to try and look at a positive side of waiting).

I don't know for sure if there is "the maximum age" for that, I am guessing people can do that at any age.

I don't see why not...as far as I know as long as you are healthy enough for the drugs and surgery you should be okay.
