My daughter is 9 months old, has 6 teeth and is nearly crawling. She is very interesated in our food and I want to give her more fingerfoods. At the moment I just give her rice cakes. HAs anyone got any suggestions for safe fingerfood?

Most babies start to be weaned at around 6 months old. Since she has teeth you can introduce most foods (not nuts though) Try not to make the food bland, add herbs, garlic etc this way you will find that they develop a better taste for all round foods.
Try things like mash potatoes with shredded chicken and veg then puree it all up, stew some fruit etc. I fed both my children on tasty food from weaning onwards and neither of them are fussy eaters. One of their fave meals was mashed potato with flaked cod and a little mackerel (good omega 3) with some grated cheese, then just puree it up in the blender ( really check the fish has no bones in it). As your daughter gets used to foods gradually introduce new flavours.

I started giving my daughter pancakes at 8 months, as suggested by her doctor. A different doc later told me that wasn't a good idea because pancakes have eggs which have allergens and sometimes aren't good for babies, but it worked out okay and my daughter had no problem with the pancakes and still loves them to this day. I also bought the little snacks you can buy in the baby food section like biter biscuits, apple wheels, etc. They say they are for toddlers but if she is eating the rice cakes fine then I would think those are okay as well. Pretty much anything that easily turns to mush or she can chew with her gums and that doesn't cause allergies will be okay for her.

depends on what she's able to handle. at 9 months my daughter was eating diced carrots from gerber. finger puffs and wagon wheels have also been some of her favs. just go into the baby section and find something that you think will appeal to her and her development level. just make sure you watch closely for any choking. she'll soon learn to move the food around in her mouth and be eating what you are. at this age for my daughter we also would put what we were having for dinner, minus any spices or salts in the food processor and let her have at it on her tray. good luck.

Organix Rings, reduced salt (made from corn flour) are very good.
Dice one apple (Braeburn are very tasty) and steam it. I use Beaba Babycook as it steams, cookes, blends. A very useful thing and very compact. My baby loves steamed apples. After 15 min they are ready and the light goes off. My baby immediately points me at the babycook because he knows that the apple is ready :) Also, you can give your baby to drink the juice which very sweat.
Steamed pears or small peaces of very ripe pears.
Bread (high quality). Do not give crust as it is not safe.
Bananas, avocadoes.
Steamed blueberries.

Always stay near your baby when she has her food!

My daughter loved just plain old toast fingers with a little butter on. The only time I had any problems with choking was when I gave her rusks or those rusk fingers designed for weaning so beware. Also she loved bread sticks - the ones you get for dip.

Have you tried the Gerber graduates? They have diced carrots and things that are very easy for her to chew. My daughter does with 2 teeth. I also give Cheerios. Those Biter Biscuits, Zwieback Toast, and Fruit puffs are also good. My daughter LOVES green beans. I heat them up and she eats them one by one. I like them because she gets her veggies and they are easy to pick up. She also eats pancakes with no syrup. She has thing with feeding herself these days.

at 9 months old she is fine for some of your food. sticks of veg or fruit cooked or raw. even very small pieces of soft meat and cheese is good too.
my daughter loved pieces of cheese when she was that age.

melt in the mouth crisps like 'skips' and fingers of bread with a little butter on are always popular, maybe smallish pieces of cheese, slices of carrot, slices of apple etc..
