Someone you want to set your standards by. Someone who did great works but, would never pat themselves on the back for it. Someone who treated others with kindness and never judged or mistreated another person. That is someone I would consider, my hero.

I believe the term 'hero' is used far too easily today. Being brave or courageous is just that. Doing what is a normal human reaction or performing the duties you are expected to perform does not make one a hero. Being kind is not being heroic.
Further, being a role model doesn't necessarily mean the person is a hero. For instance, every sports star who ever lived never were heros because they were brilliant, exceptional players. They may have been a hero for another reason, but not for playing a game.
Taking up a seemingly impossible challenge for selfless reasons makes a hero. In the movie 'Hero' with Dustin Hoffman, Hoffman's character went into a burning plane because a little boy asked him to save his father. By nature, he didn't want to, but he went in selflessly, did not change his character (he stole stuff while in the plane) but pushed beyond his selfish personality.
Peace

1. in Greek mythology, a hero is a being of great strength and courage celebrated for bold exploits; often the offspring of a mortal and a god.
