Does anyone here think that the words American, freedom, priority, independance, and privacy go hand and hand???????? Let's face it......... privacy is lacking in our culture, and when a nation cares more about who the next American Idol is than who our next president is, and when Paris Hilton makes more headlines than the AIDS crisis in Africa in American media, you can pretty much see what our priorities are as a culture. Sure we have our own... but they are just that......... our own. Does anyone here think that Americans put themselves first all of the time? A disgruntled gay American wants to know. He also wants to know where we draw the line with with what is public and private. Shouldn't that line be the bedroom door? And is race still a factor? Some say yes, others, no. One thing's for sure......... the gays, and the native Americans are the two most hated groups. no one cares about one, and everyone seems to go against the other. Your thoughts, and please..... don't be shy.

Americans have a hard time deciding what is really important, Hollywood or reality. I really don't give a fudge about American Idol or Paris Hilton.

This planet is on the verge of a third world war, we have people who are starving not just overseas but in our own country. People are dying of HIV/AIDS. Women and children are being slaughtered by leaders who think that genocide is the answer. I don't have an answer and I'm not really trying very hard to change things so maybe that makes me part of the problem.

Goodness, you really put it all on the line.

Well, let me see...

How should I start? How about: "Religion is the opium of the masses." Marx said that. And it's true, and I would say that 90% of the way the "social" world has been shaped is in because of religion. But let me be specific: religious extremism.

Here's the biggie: If you go against religion, you will be categorized as somebody who goes against ALL religious people, in which case you're going to lose, because the majority of church goers don't really mean any harm at all. They are some of the most amazing and nicest people on Earth. But what we should explain is that we are against Religious Extremism.

Unfortunately, because it's been passed down since the beginning of society, religious extremists run the world. They are the most powerful, they have the most money, etc. So all the push any counterculture wants to get going to create a more stable world is either devastated by the powers that be, or simply impossible to even begin.

But this occurs in countries like America more, however, as opposed to Amsterdam, where prostitution is legal, where smoking marijuana won't get you in jail, and where there are gay marriages. Oh, and by the way, a place where people didn't go crazy and lawless because of these social tolerances.

So...consider it a role of the powerful to convince the public that you need a fancy car to have a good life, or you need to be married to be a success in life, or you need to be straight to really have a future, or you need to conceal that you don't masturbate to online porn in order to run for President. Imagine that!

But like Ghandi said, Be the change you want to be in the world.

I know it sounds cliche, but the truth is, there are MILLIONS of people who are out there working hard, working to make a difference every day, to create impact, not just in small communities, but the WHOLE WORLD.

Bad news, however, because these people aren't exactly good news.

Journalisms (like me) follow this: "If it bleeds, it leads."

That's the bottom line.

There are limits to privacy. Unfortunately for some, this government seems to think it is perfectly fine to control what you do in the privacy of your own home, and more specifically your bedroom.

What ever happened to the days of, if he/she is not hurting anyone, why bother them?

Well, I'll tell ya, homophobia continues to run deep in certain religious circles, as well as certain parts of the country. Just look at the red states, and you'll know exactly where to stay away from.

The bigots seem to think that they can push their way of living onto gays and lesbians. Ironic that they should do that, and in the same breath accuse gays and lesbians of pushing their "gayness" to the public. It's the same type of rhetoric that they use to continue to believe that gays are not born that way.

It's easy for them to point fingers and hate, because that's what uneducated, uncivilized people do.

Most people who have gay friends are not homophobic.

Gay-bashing, queer name calling, and those homophobes that spew the word ****** like it's the word "THE", are often times closeted gays themselves.

Just scroll down these answers and look for the anti-gay remarks, guaranteed underlying gay sexual tendencies.

Your question is huge. Basically, you are addressing the issue of pluralism, which is an acceptance of diversity. Actually, you are addressing the LACK of pluralism in the world today, especially in the U.S. The irony in that, is this nation was founded on pluralistic principles. The very first agreement that pilgrims made in this land was called the Mayflower Contract, which was an agreement to accept everyone's right to worship as they chose. Our government was formed as a common ground for thirteen very different states of people. And, we designed this government to be separate from religious control. This was a nation in which, "I may not agree with what you say, but I'd die to defend your right to say it." This was a land in which we could each be individuals and yet live together in peace as one nation. No one ever has to APPROVE of what someone else believes in. But, in this free land, we had a responsibility to ACCEPT what others believed. But, no more. There has been a steady, relentless attack against these pluralistic principles by fundamental Christians over especially the last fifty or so years. Far-righters and Christian fundamentalists, especially Evangelicals, believe that it is WRONG to tolerate other beliefs than their own. They write and preach that to be "tolerant" is, in effect, to say that what THEY believe in is not the one - and - only - correct - path - to - goodness. They actually say that, that tolerance is EVIL. These morbid people are trying to destroy this democracy and our freedoms as individuals. They now consider it an urgent mission and, as they reported in "Faith and Nation" last Novemebr, they advocate the violent overthrow of this government if their "one-and-only-correct-agenda" is not made into legislation. They have permeated every branch of our government, literally camping out in the back of the Senate and the House, literally influencing the Pentagon so dangerously that military staff who have voiced concern (some generals want a "Christian" military, per Evangelical design), are reassigned far away from the Pentagon, as reported right here on Yahoo news. They have sickened our public school programs with their anti-science and anti-logic bents to the point that, once the leader in the world in math and science, our nation's children cannot even pass the new global job market tests for "janitor". Our children's HIGHEST math and science scores are lower than Denmark' s lowest! It's that bad. The Evangelicals claim to be 40 million strong. Ultra far-right groups, such as the Heritage Foundation, have grown extremely powerful in the last decade, and affect every aspect of our lives, from advertising, what research does or does not get conducted and what should or should not be taught in schools. Every issue today, from gay marriage to stem cell research, is mucked with and under attack by these sickos. Be aware that these anti-tolerance groups, especially Christian Evangelicals, (but look also at radical Muslims who say pretty much the same intolerant line), mean us ALL harm.

I ALWAYS suspect something when the paperwork I need to sign, read, ect has the words "Protecting your privacy". You know they do not.

When council voting slips have bar codes, I know that all vestiges of privacy are gone.

I think we all are losing our rights every day. The problem is that the aging hippies have lost the will to fight, and the other generations cant seem to find out how.

anything that someone does that only affects themselves, or anything they do WITH another person as opposed to TO another person should not be illegal.

people need to stop worrying about how other people live their lives and start focusing on living theirs the best they can.

I am for full support of gay people(men and women). I think EVERYONE should have the right to be married, have children, raise children and be a happy family!

Nobody! The govt, the president, the state: NOBODY has the right to tell you that you can't get married and have(or adopt) kids!

God Bless, hun!
