it really depends on what you want and need from a pet.

for example. do you have space restrictions, such as living in a third floor apartment? obviously that will knock out large animals like horses, or even large dogs, who need big yards to be happy/

Also, how much care do you want to put into the animal? do you want an animal that needs constant attention, like a ferret, or do you want a pet that is more independant and can go off and do their own thing, such as a gecko or a cat?

as well as considerations; do you want something to snuggle with, like a puppy, or something that sits on a shelf, in the small mammal/birds/reptiles/fish department?

in my life i've had cats, dogs hamsters, ferrets, geckos and fish. out of all of them, i would have to say its a toss up between americas favorites, the cats or dogs. ferrets are fun, but they're a very demanding pet, requiring hours of intense, on the floor play with them. they also require whats known as ferret proofing. you have to look around your entire house (or whatever rooms your ferret will be in) and inspect every inch of it. is there a mouse hole? a gap in the cabinets? live wires anywhere? all of these can spell death, or even a loss of the pet, into the walls.

what i would reccomend is go to your local pet stores, and your local animal shelters. spend some time getting to know all of your options, and pick from that experience. find a kitten you just can't say no to? a ferret tug at your heartstrings? or maybe it will be a gecko that makes you say Ohhh!!!! either way dont take any of our advice, find out for yourself. :)

If you're looking for something with minimum maintenance, Betta fish are pretty easy and nice to look at. And they don't require all the equipment and care that other fish do.

Fish are probably the easiest. But a nice cat will keep you company and they're independant.

depends on you. what are you willing to do for this pet? it's totally up to you and when you decide on what you can provide and are willing to do, then research until you cry about the type of pet you are getting.

Dogs because they respond to you and the attention you give them. The more time and love you put into them the more respose you get. They are completely loyal and dedicated to you.
