Ok, so I was on YOUTUBE right now, and was watching a performance by Justin Timberlake from the MTV Awards that just recently passed. I was reading some of the comments. What I kept seeing was a whole lot of, "Michael Jackson is the king of pop. . . he could REALLY dance. . .etc"

I'm going to be honest with you, I don't see what is so special about Jackson, at all. Yeah he could dance, but I'm not sure what was so special and/or groundbreaking. Yeah he could sing, but it was absolutely NOTHING extraordinary. . .

I don't get it. . .what are your thoughts? Am I way off base? Do you agree? Why is it that Michael Jackson is given so much credit, where I don't see it should necessarily be given?

His current works are nothing to do cartwheels about, but in the 80's and some of the 70's is where he made his mark as the king of pop. He revolutionized video, dancing, singing and entertainment on an entirely different level. Bringing all nationalities together with his entertainment. People were always waiting to find out what he would do next. I never jumped on the band wagon, but he was so good he was 'BAD.' Going into the 90's he was above average at best. In the new Millennium he is just outright horrible. He should have hung it up while he was on top of his game.

I am assuming your young. So here is my take on it. I was a little kid when The Jackson 5 hit the airwaves in the early 70"s. It was a television event. The fact here is this little black kid, little kid!, singing and dancing his heart out, on a basically white oriented TV programs era. The Jackson 5 was awesome when they first hit the airwaves, and the music sold like candy....Now years later an adult Michael Jackson hits the music scene, and when he did Thriller, it was a media sensation....One of the very first "short movie" style videos that had so much media hype it was incredible. "World Premier Video" was the lead up to it, and seeing that video for the first time was awesome! Little Michael Jackson was grown up and jammin'..So if you are just going by the last 10-15 yrs of his music, news stories, I can see where you may only see the present things surrounding him, but he has been around for over 30years, that is why his talent has kept his personal life separated by people, and he isn't a homeless washed out singing bum living out of a cardboard box. There is only one Elvis, for example, there is and will only be one Michael Jackson.....In his day, he was a very talented person....Now, he is just a nut case......

michael jackson started when he was just a young kid when he performed with the jackson five. don't judge him as he is now but look at him historically from where he started to now. he was a great dancer as no one taught him his moves....he would do his own moves and choreograph them himself. he started new trends.

all those moves you see african american do today....they got from him! he made them up! he not only composed his music, sang his songs but invented dances and moves for them.

nowadays, most singers sing somebody else's compositions and they have other people do the dance steps for them.......not michael.....he is a one man performer who did everything himself. he was the first one who created a whole scene in MTV. during those time, performers would just sing and film themselves and put it on MTV......then michael jackson came out with Thriller where there was a story line and a beginning and an ending.....it was awesome! no one ever made video like that before. and by the way, the whole thing was his idea, his choregraphing from what he did to all the zombies dancing....

it was michael jackson who inspired a lot of young boys to become the performers they are now.

No i dont think hes overrated at all.. he is the 'king of pop' which is a title very hard to get just like elvis is the 'king of R&R'.. have u seen the way MJ dances? i tried like some 5 times but ui always fall and experience pain...i think MJ needs a break and needs to be happy for ones without the media screwing up his sad life...

You'd have to look it up but he might still be tops in record sales for pop artists.

That said, we all know the King of Pop is truly Weird Al.
