Ok - Well there are many styles floating around
First off - in the teen scene- which has leaked somewhat into adults -
Prep - American Eagle Clothes, Juicy Couture-(girls), Even victoria's secret sweatshorts
Then there's
Boarder - (skater/surfer) - Quicksilver, PacSun, Hollister
Then -
Gothic - not really an adult style - Stores like Hot Topic
Punk - again " " " " " - Stores like Hot Topic-Pac Sun
Emo - Strictly Hot Topic, all black clothes. Long hair. Depressed look.
Scene-Forever 21, Delia*s
"Gangsta" lol - large shirts. 2 sizes larger than you. Baggy shorts that look like pants. hats, chains.

My personal style is - 25% Boarder, 40% emo, 12% gothic, 23% scene

if you tell us what kind of person you are, we can probably get an outfit online of pictures of what would look good!

Buy new clothes. Anything new in a decent store is usually in "style". You can't just wear your old clothes because by their very nature, they are not "in". So throw out the old, save up for a new wardrobe ($300 or so) and pick a decent store based on your age, you can't go wrong with H&M for under 32.

The nautical theme is in. Navy is a hot color and horizontal stripes are all over the place. I have also noticed a lot of rope incorporated into outfits. For example, I found a navy blazer with a white cable rope as a belt. And I saw a tote with a cable rope closure.
