First I agree you need to practice. Wearing heels once a month rarely feels comfortable.
Second is to leave the callouses. They are natural cushions.
Third is to make sure you are getting the right size. Stop in a t areal shoe store and have have foot measured.
Buy several pairs of heels some low , some high, a large heel, a skinny heel, maybe a wedge. You can buy them at payless or Walmart or more expensive places. I have not been able to predict which shoes will be comfortable all day until I have worn them a few times.
Lastly, give your feet a break during the day. slip off you r shoes for a few minutes when no one is looking.
Good Luck!

Firstly, I would pratice walking in them around the house. Even if its only for 15 minutes at a time, it really does help. Also, make sure your shoes aren't too high.
Secondly, I bought these great gel cushion that you can put in the balls of your shoes (especially those with higher heels) to make them more comfortable. The pressure on the ball of your foot is lessen by these gel cushions.

First of all make sure that they fit you correctly. Many times people actually will get shoes that don't fit properly. If the shoe is to small or narrow it will pinch and squeeze your toes *ouch*. If the shoe is to big your foot will slide and may cause blisters. And you actually may not be able to wear pumps if you have to high of an arch or no arch at all. Personally, if I have to wear pumps... they come off when no one is looking!

Bakers make some shoe pads that you can put under your shoes that give them more grip and make you able to walk in them all day.
