I'm not quite sure what you mean by "you can with Microsoft".
Are you saying you can work with MSN.com, or Microsoft.com off-line ? OR that you can do the above noted off-line?

You can use many of Microsoft's products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio, etc.) off-line as they are not Internet "centric".
They are "built for" running off-line (newer versions have on-line features).

Please add additional detail to your question if I'm off-course

yes, just click on tools, then check the offline, if you are using IE7. I switched to Mozilla/Firefox (lot better than IE7) and you go to FILE on the top right and click on offline.
