I really wonder how is the actual process to perform the singing without knowing much about that language. And the most important matter, made it sound credible and natural.

Keep in mind they learn correct pronunciation faster that non-musical folks. I trained actors once to overdub a movie for the German market, and they could pick up even long sentences very quickly. But most singers can, in fact, speak the language they're adapting for, at least a bit - Peter Gabriel actually speaks German, and Bowie had obscure versions in German but he also lived there for a while and surely knew a little German. But even so, he may sound convincing to you, but he didn't sound native to really fluent speakers.
