Number one: It's all in the wording. And in being macho. Guys never use the terms cute or pretty. A guy can call another guy hot, good looking or handsome. Number two: It's not fair, yes, the double standard for dress, but hey! it took us women long enough to be able to wear trousers instead of dresses all the time, and damn you are not getting us back to the 50's. Number three: Guys compare penis sizes all the time, in the gym locker room in high school, at circle jerks, they just don't TALK about it. Until women raise their boys to be more sensitive and less macho, we will have these standards. It's not so bad. We need to take some of the aggression outta men as a whole, but we as a society still need macho men in the world.

What sort of ridiculous question is this? Have you even thought this through? I have seen Scottish men in kilts, and Tongan (and other Pacific Islander) men in grass skirts, and priests at my catholic school in robes. It never even crossed my mind that they were gay. I have NEVER been to a sleep over where girls compare breast size - that sounds like something you've just made up (or else seen in movies). You really have a distorted take on all this.
Maybe you should have said "Why are there such blatant double standards when it comes to making generalisations about homosexuality between the genders"

1) Homophobic pressures that make men fear that commenting on the objective attractiveness of another man is equal to admitting he finds him attractive and wishes to sleep with him.
2) That's not quite true. Put a woman in a suit or actual men's clothing (i.e. not just tomboyish boy's clothes), and look at people's reactions. Girls who wear butch styles are often called gay. But yes, there's more leeway, and basically, it's because women's fashion has extended to include menswear and claim it as unisex, but the feminine end (skirts and so on) are still female territory, and to be feminine, in society's eyes, is to be gay.
3) I actually think guys do compare penis size, but maybe I'm just making that up. Anyhoo, that's basically the same as #1- that homophobic tension that men have when they've all got their penises whipped out, whereas girls are just supposedly being vain and comparing them objectively.
In the end, it boils down to double standards and homophobia.

Because we live in a time where it's okay to discriminate against men, but let women do things that guys are degrated for.
I always say that just about anything a guy does in todays America can be considered gay, unless your a jock who just watches sports and drinks beer. And even then some will call you gay. But girls can do anything tthey want.
And being called "gay" isn't bad. Whats bad is how people use the word to degrade you. When someone calls you gay, they aren't just saying your an actual gay dude. They're saying your a filthy, confused, weakling who's less than a man. Which is degrading. Those people see gays that way, so they see people they "think" are gay, that way. Usually they're actually the ones who end up being gay/bi, which I find interesting.

1) because girls are pretty. guys are handsome.
2) this isn't true. there are many places where guys wear whats known as "one leg" pants. basically like a skirt. its not gay its just the region you live in.
3) i've never compared breast size with my friends, but i dont see how men compare penis size they're gay.
I think you're a little too worried about being called gay. just be yourself.

people don't understand the difference between sex and gender.
you think exactly like i do.. these 3 questions are answered based on manmade societial roles and norms.. this is what's known as gender perception. men are supposed to act this way! women are supposed to act that way! and they can't swtich roles! .. this is what society tells us, and most of us are brainwashed into buying into it... but not me! and not you!
i am a transgenderists.. i don't agree with societial norms. especially the ones that involve such blatant double standards.
being gay is clearly about sex, not gender.. and for this, people are totally misusing the term because they are not educated enough to understand the difference between sex and gender.
therefore, they assume that anyone who bucks societial norms, does so because of sexual orientation, not because of disbelief in society..
furthermore, in my case, not only do i disagree with societal roles for men, i tend to agree with and associate myself more towards the female role.. i am very emotional, sensitive, and not afraid to express these "feminine" characteristics..
the ultimate rush for a transgenderist is to buck society and to take on the role of the other gender.
an interesting 4th question you could add would be that it seems more acceptable for females to experiment sexually or physically with each other, than males..
