its a shame if it happens. i have two girls who are beautiful without any intervention. i can understand why people would want to pick the sex of a child if there is a syndrome in the family passed down through the males, but not just for appearance sake

Yes . May be sooner than we think.

This will definitely help mankind in the avoidance of Congenital and Hereditary anomalies and diseases with high morbity and mortality rate.

I suppose it is just pushing the genetic manipulation a bit further to alter appearances and characteristics of a 'Designer Baby'.

It is just the advances of Science that we cannot prevent !

Really, it is possibly the most amazing thing for humanity. Selecting characteristics and deselecting disease or retardation while making the in utero growth optimum to create conditions that avoid in the womb defects would definitely make life better for everyone. Plus, newly discovered or created genes may be incorporated to advance the species further.

this should be more a question of how many will not choose to design their own babies. Most people follow trends. If designing babies becomes a trend (most likely), 90% of the population will be doing it. The 10% will become the new terrorists. This will be the next world war. Wouldn't that be fun?

I HOOOOOOOOPE NOT! its about time people started recognising that your child is not an extension of yourself. just because they lived in you or your partner's body for 9 months doesnt mean you own them and can make decisions on their behalf, especially not those regarding something as critical and core to their existence and identity as DNA.
i beleive that ANY PERSON who thinks it is their right to pick and choose a child's qualities instead of being willing to accept the baby as they are born is a FOOOOOOL and is NO WHERE NEAR emotionally or mentally mature enough to competently attempt the infinitely trying task that is parenthood!! aRGH

Science will one day make it possible, at the moment embryos can be screened for genetic diseases, sex etc but true genetic engineering is further off.

Although scientifically possible I'd imagine it would be ethically wrong and I'd certainly not support something like this

Those that can't afford to chose their babies looks, can cover their face with a vail. Some cultures have already adapted this practice.

It might be possible someday, but I definitely hope not. It is disgusting the lengths to which people go to in interfering with nature
