'Regular sex' is penetrative genital-to-genital sex.
Oral sex is mouth-to-genital, and men can perform it on other men, men can perform it on women, women can perform it on other women, or they can perform it on men. It's the one thing everyone can do.
They were laughing because 'oral' refers to the mouth, so an 'oral presentation' would be one where you gave a speech, and it makes sense that 'oral sex' would be talking sexy, but it's not.
