There are many different species of crickets but the field cricket is a serious agricultural pest. Field crickets are fairly common. If you only have a few of them I wouldn't worry about them. But if you notice a large population you may want to spray or dust them to keep their population in check so your garden is not damaged.
If you are oriental you can keep one in a cricket cage for good luck but it will probably keep you awake at night with its chirping.

Crickets are in the same family genis as roaches. They eat your plants, so if you have too many, then no it wouldn't be a good thing.
On the other hand if you are fond of organic fertilizer which chemically breaks down almost too quickly to be of any use anyway...then maybe you'll like them. They leave exhorbadant amounts of little black poop pellets that look like poppy seeds all over the place.
But alas! you can use them as a free temperature guage since you can accurately tell the temperature outdoors by their chirps per minute.

I've been a serious gardener for many years and have never had any reason to consider crickets a serious pest problem.
Really destructive pests that need to be dealt with are things like cabbage worms, cucumber beetles, slugs.
