Indian civilization is the oldest. There was a class structure. Principally it was meant for the division of labour. The kings ruled; the aristocrats governed; the soldiers fought; the brahmins studied and taught the scriptures; the agricultural class cultivated and provided food; the cleaners cleaned. Society was well regulated. Modern enquiry into genetics of the human race often comes with revelations that when generations go through the same stream of work their genes also mould accordingly. Here we are talking of 4000 years. Modern Indian political wisdom is in contest with the sages of yore. A barber cannot be a king maker, nor an farmer a king. Maybe they are sufficiently talented and intelligent to pass the required tests, but when it comes to essence of clear thought, the genes are the fount for wisdom; for deep inner thought which is needed to guide society correctly and take society forward.
Reservations for SC's, ST's who were earlier in Indian society the support system, to to the extent of enabling them to get equal opportunity for education in a modern world is understandable. But to give him a reservation to the throne; in a position to control society; will only harm society in the time to come. History will tell.
I say no. The government ought not to give reservations. By all means open free schools and colleges for the SC's and ST's and let them refine and hone their skills, if they are to sit in the higher echelons of society. Give them grants to study. But do not hold the ladder for them to climb up to wherever they want to go.
I am an Anglo-Indian. Which class would I belong to?? Would I be entitled to a reservation? Isn't this disparity for me? But Anglo-Indians are few. Too few votes for the vote seekers to pay attention to.

Well,I feel reservation for sc's and st's should be stopped now.The time, they were downtrodden and needed this weapon, till that era it was fine.Because we should always support and help those who are weak. But now, they have come up to the level where they can compete with others. Now,if we still continue with the reservation, then definately we are being partial with non sc's and st's. Education has become a race now and all participants should be equally treated .Its as practical as it can be. There's nothing to complain about....!
