Don't worry about it, 1394 stand for IEEE-1394, it's a Firewire connection. It's work just like usb. It was created by Apple and was originally intended for devices with lots more data -- things like camcorders, DVD players and digital audio equipment. It shows up on your pc because you have a firewire port.

That is IEEE 1394 your talking about. It is a port very similar in the ways a USB port is used. You use this port to transfer data and files (ipod, etc), video (camcorders) whatever you need. 1394 is faster than USB 2.0 though. On a Windows system it is called 1394. Stupid people call it firewire, but it is only called firewire if your on a MAC!!! Stop calling it firewire or Steve Jobs will sue you!! The icon you see in your network connections page is just that it lets you enable the port or disable it. Most ipods come interfaced to support 1394 or "firewire" as alot of ID 10 T's call it, but yea it is a very convenient port to have.

Yes, it's commonly known as "Firewire" and Sony calls it "iLink". You can connect camcorders and external devices to it.

i've seen that before as well and wondered what it was...disabling it would disable my connection for some reason even though it wasn't my real internet connection. *shrugs*
