Here goes: diapers, wet wipes, moist washcloth (safely stored in a ziplog bag), hand sanitizer, vaseline/anti-rash cream, baby powder, baby cream, extra set of clothes & socks, formula, bottle, pacifier (if you're going to use it), bottle of water (brought to boiling point & left to cool down), a small soft toy & perhaps a small towel to lay baby down on when you're changing his/her diaper. You're most probably not going to use all of it, but believe me: the day you leave out ONE item, you're going to need it. You don't have to carry the big powder & cream bottles - get some of the small ones which doesn't take up too much space & doesn't weigh that much. Good luck!

When she was a newborn I packed the diapers and wipes ofcourse :-) a suction bulb, burp cloth, blanket, bib, change of clothes, thermometer, diaper rash ointment, 2 bottles, a can of formula, a bottle of water, extra pacifiers, and a changing pad. Now that she's 10 months I'm down to a sippy cup some diapers and some wipes!! LOL the older they get the less you need!

Diapers, wipes, pacifier, toy, light coverup if you are breastfeeding & shy about doing so in public, bottle & formula if you are bottlefeeding (don't mix with water until it is feeding time - just measure formula into bottle & bring a water bottle to add later), extra outfit in case baby makes a mess (they often do!), burp cloth, washcloth, extra blanket for the baby, extra hat for the baby (it is winter and a hat can easily fall of baby). If your diaper bag is large enough - leave your purse at home and put your car keys, wallet, etc. in the diaper bag - it is one less thing to carry. What you carry in your diaper bag will evolve over time (you'll be carrying baby food and sippy cups when baby starts on solids).

Bottles, baby wipes, a toy, pacifier and of coarse several diapers. If the diaper bag is big enough, pack a wet baby washcloth in a Ziploc bag. You might even want to bring an extra outfit, just in case of accidents.

If you are talking about the everyday bag that you are going to carry around, and not the hospital bag, here is what is in mine:
diapers
wipes
diaper cream
plastic bags (to carry away dirty diapers)
simple change of clothes
recieving blanket or plastic mat (to lay baby on when changing)
burping cloth
Camera!
Depending on how you are feeding your baby:
bottle
formula
nursing pads
lanolin cream
I actually have a really large purse that doubles as my diaper bag. Easier to carry only one thing. And it looks better.

Do a search online and it will tell you everything you need. You don't need to pack diapers because the hospital gives you a bunch. Pack extra clothing for the season because they usually don't send you home with any. Bring comfortable pajamas, toiletries, perfume, and a camera. If the father is around, have him help you. When I went into labor with my daughter, I was caught off guard. Luckily, my mom knew and came to the hospital with a few different bags, LOL.

She's 9 mos old now, so it's much different than a new baby. I put diapers, wipes, changing pads, antibacterial wipes (single packs!), toys.
For a newborn, I put dipes, wipes, changing pad, antibac. wipes, diaper ointment, extra clothes (may go thru a lot with a newborn!), burp rags, extra pacifier, blanket (because I breastfed and needed it to cover up. This would replace bottles and formula if you are using that!)
Good luck :)

Diapers, wipes, at least one spare outfit, diaper rash ointment, hanging mat, bibs, burp rags, bottles and formula if you are bottle feeding, pacifier (if you are using one). Anything else special you may need for baby depending on where you are going.
