because more people harm them, they cant protect themselves as much as a human can and they are soo cute and you fall in love with them, too cute to kill..its so sad if you do

Like children, animals are innocent and that is a precious thing for a human to see.
Another reason is humans do so much crap to the world (pollute, cut down forests, use the world's natural resources too fast, wars etc) that it is easy to hate the human race.

people may turn out to be ingrate for you but pets rarely do that .besides there are some people who want to be ultimately donors.
