Putting together a new system for my friend and I forget if it needs to be put in as a pair. Do I order the pair of 512's or will one 1024 be fine?

If you plan to set your ram up as dual channel, you need 2 sticks. Best to have a matched pair.

Unless you have a very picky mainboard that needs two channels of RAM (such as if it has redundant RAM like some HP servers), you should be fine with one stick. If you want to be sure, check out the manual for your mainboard (available online - search for the model number). It will list the supported memory configurations.

However, as a default, you should be safe with one stick. It's also a better choice if you want to upgrade later.

No, it is not required for it to work. However for dual channel mode to work you need a matched pair, and dual channel does provide a good performance boost, so it is definately a good idea to buy a matched pair.

1024 means 1GB its quit good RAM giving good speed in comparison of pair. if after sometime u have a problem in your RAM u can use your computer with single 512 RAM in comperision of 1GB RAM.

Get the two 512's. I think they do need to be, and if not, you got the same amount of memory anyway :)
