Any shoes designed for dancing that are not too special or unusual (like, not ballet pointe or modern paws) will work fine. Strappy sandals with suede sole (same as Latin) is the best choice. You want the shoes to help you to be very forward poised. Latin shoes are specifically designed for that. Take a look at http://www.featherdanceshoes.com they have quality shoes that are affordeable.

Strappy with suede sole.

Type online in ebay: ballroom dancing shoes and your size.
This has been my best bet for finding cheap but good shoes. "Very Fine" is a popular brand. Look for under $50. Never pay over $100 unless it's "comme il faut", but you won't want anything like that for salsa.

My very first pair were flesh colored which seems to be everyone's favorite because they look good and go with everithing.
