If you are talking about the plastic outer covering that is cosmetic only. The inner part of the door is metal and that is what "seals" the microwaves in the microwave oven. There is no nuclear radiation produced in a microwave as many think. A microwave produces radio frequency(RADAR)waves. Just like the police use to monitor traffic speed only confined in a small area inside the microwave oven.

Depends on the extent of the damage. But over time you should replace it.

If it is just a little broken the radiation that comes out the the microwave isnt enough to kill you but dont go a stick your head in front of it. If the damage to the door is large then it shouldn't be used with you standing in the same room at least.

Either way it needs to be replaced!

YES GET RID OF IT. microwave leakage could theoretically "cook" the insides of anyone who stands near the unit when it is operating. This goes also for any large holes in the screen in the door, the holes are sized to contain the large wavelength of the microwaves and any "burn" holes in the screen could allow wave leakage.

To check most microwaves, move a small florescent light bulb with in one inch of the surface. If the light bulb starts to light up, your microwave is leaking energy.

There are dangers, other then leakage like electric shock that also could happen. I wouldn't use an appliance that wasn't working, a micro-wave is to cheap at Wal-Mart to take a chance with.
