It's a celebration of how a difference was made through generations. The celebration is not about slavery, but about overcoming all of this. It's a way to look back and see how people have changed for the better. Too bad not everyone has changed...

I am in agreement with some of this, particularly about how they celebrate. I think they should make it like Hanukah? The eight days of candles, signifying the flee from Egypt, and only enough oil for one day but it stretched to eight? and they give eight gifts to celebrate freedom. Now if they would celebrate the freedom part and get rid of all the bad stuff that would be turning the page and that is a little hard when you still want to use it to whine about for excuses to hate on a crusade. King is probably rolling in his grave. The Afro-Americans get a whole month, we have Christmas and that is a weekend, thanksgiving one day, the 4th of July freedom significant one day? And if it was not for that day none of us would be free for they would not either for they are Americans, But Kings birthday covers a whole weekend and all they do is mourn and piss and moan. Move on and celebrate laugh live be joyful for the it is a gift that they have been given. And not by us but by evolution mother nature because we are all equal. And we should not have the reverse discrimination fall upon us either. Maybe write in and suggest a big feast and dancing holiday with music, and joy for the month of February? And enough with proving and arguing about who invented what we were not there we don't know and we don't care. It does nothing for me or you that Ben Franklin was white and he was the greatest inventor of all time and no one ever will top him, white or black. All we can do is be grateful he invented what he did, and we have the privelege of enjoying his inventions. Well Good Luck

Er, um....why do YOU celebrate anything you do? Because it seems right? Maybe you were indoctrinated to think your own ethnicity and traditions are somehow right (or at least more so than others)?
