It's the iron fortified formula. Both of my children had this when they started formula. Try switching him to either Enfamil Gentlease for babies with fussiness and gas or the Wal Mart brand of it. If you are going to get the Wal Mart brand, it usually costs $15 for a pretty big size can and you need to go in the morning when it's freshly stocked. Don't go after work because 9 times out of 10 it will be sold out. Also, try Fleet baby suppositories. They work great too. One other suggestion is Caro syrup. The dark kind. I thought it odd when my daughter's pediatrician reccommended it, but it really does work.

It's the iron in the formula. Put Dark Karo Syrup in at least two bottles a day. Measure out 1 tablespoon for each 4 ounce bottle, and shake the bottle up to make sure the syrup has mixed completely well in the formula. Put syrup in a warm bottle. I suggest this because I have used this old time remedy for my 5 kids, and on the 50 other children I have raised. It works. The syrup will help keep the baby regular and not so constipated. It is terrible when a baby is constipated the poor baby is miserable like we are when we are constipated.

my daughter has been constipated since passing her meconium. we just gave a few ounces of water a day. our ped. said nothing juice wise until 3-4 months. but i'm not saying not to follow your md's advice, as i am not a dr. as for apple juice i have heard it can go both ways, might make the constipation worse or not. apple juice will constipate my daughter worse. ask your md about prune juice and we diluted once she was old enough with 1 part prune juice and 3 parts water. it could be the formula, but we've switched several brands and finally just stuck with one for the sake of our daughter. it made no difference plus she needed the iron. talk to your md and come up with a solution you both feel good about. good luck.

I had this problem with My first child . I would try a new formula . I know good start is not a good one if you are having this problem . You can give them watered down apple or prune juice . Gerber makes both types but add more water to it . I had to switch 5 formulas before I found one for my son and it was walmarts generic brand formula . It was called like parents choice brand . Parents choice gentle is good to and i would try your baby on that one .

Here is a link that you can look at about there formulas .

It is probably the iron fortified formula. My kids' pediatrician said that enfamil Lipil is especially constipating. He said to give an ounce or two of water once a day to help loosen things up. If you do give apple juice, water it down first...half water and half juice, or even three parts water to one part juice.

Glycerin suppositories work very well for an occasional case of constipation.

its likely the iron in the formula, so dilute each bottle slightly, and give the baby water not juice, put some vaseline on anus, it might be red and sore

add some bottled water to the formula. its too early i think to introduce juices unless theyre real watered down. do not use tap water unless its boiled.
