Who will know except for you? At most the two people sitting next to you, and even they might think you are with the person on your other side.

Who cares what they think... I go by myself quite often because I work an odd shift and most of my friends work when I am off work. So I get to go during the day during the week, when the costs are lower.
Sometimes you can also meet people that have the same interest in the same movies as you, but I dont see going to a theater as a initial dating service.

I think a person has a character flaw if they are afraid to go to a movie alone because they are worried what other people will think.
I know that sounds kind of cruel but I think it's ridiculous to miss out on something you really enjoy because you think it's 'lame' to do it alone.
Hopefully you don't think that way because when you go to a movie with a friend you enjoy speculating about people sitting by themselves.

I go to the movies alone when no one likes the movie I'm going to see. It's not lame... it's just going to see a movie you like. It's better than dragging someone who's just going to be fidgeting and annoying the whole movie because they didn't wanna come in the first place. That, and you get to pick wherever you wanna sit, and not have to compromise.

Well, if you really liked the movie but your friends don't, you could just go alone. Have a strong character and don't think too much of how others would think about you.
Back to the point. I feel that people who go to movies alone either wanna do research and don't want others to disturb them, or are introverts.

I think it is fine. People need to get a life, I have gotten strange looks for sitting in a resturant alone too. These things have been lumped into the "group activity" catagory, and it makes some people uncomfortable to see "loners" at these places. Just bring a big coat and put it one the seat next to you and say your boyfriend is meeting you there so the freaks and weirdos will not try to pick you up.

Nothing wrong with it. I've done it before, just cuz I really wanted to see that movie and was actually wanting to see it by myself so noone could bother me during the movie. I'll tell ya something else too... makes it a lot easier to find a good seat, especially if it's packed. I say go for it if ya want to. No shame in it at all. Have fun!

I don't even think about it when I see someone alone in a theater. I went to one alone to pass the time, but it was kind of uncomfortable. Then again that could have been because I was watching one of the worst comedies of all time, something about living with the amish. It had Tim Allen in it. Ugh what a terrible movie.

I go by myself to the movies all of the time. It's pretty common. Look around next time you are at the movies. I bet you will see at least one person who is there alone. Like you said, sometimes it is hard to get somebody to go to certain movies. Also, by the time I have time to go see a movie, most of my friends have already seen it.

Why not? Who made a rule that people can only go to the movies in minimum groups of 2? If there is a movie you want to see but none of your friends are interested or available there is no reason you can't go by yourself.

I only go to the movies alone. It is the only way to ensure that no one talks to you during the movie. But then again, I'm kind of lame.
