i'll have a degree in general engineering with a minor in electrical...how hard will it be to find a job with a decent wage...location is not a problem

It depends on where you got your degree from. A degree from top university will fetch you a job even before you leave the college. In other cases it will take time ranging from 2 weeks to 3 months

The difficulty level of finding a job straight out of college is inversely proportional to the salary you will accept.
In other words, if you're willing to take less money, you'll find a job quicker, and vice versa.
Consider getting a job in a larger corporation for 1-3 years, because it looks good on a resume to have a large well known corporation on your resume, and then move onto a smaller company. This will be the quickest way to advancement.

It really depends a lot on you, your grades, and your effort. Here is some advice.

Start immediately if you are looking for summer work this year. DO NOT WAIT!
Start putting out letters.
Don't look in the paper and hope to find a job listing.
Instead, locate every company who could possibly use your services and write each of them a letter.
Write to the president, tell him/her you are a student in your field, your position in class, your GPA, a brief intro on yourself, you are looking for summer work that will provide solid experience in your field, you are willing to do anything, you would like to have a meeting to discuss the possibility and what a position with his/her company would look like.
Do a follow-up call to the president one week after sending the letter.
Say that you are following up on a letter you sent one week ago to see if there is an opportunity with his/her company.
If he has not read the letter, tell him you will send another one immediately, ask for instructions on how to make sure it gets through to him, and do that immediately.
It is intimidating to think of calling the president, but don't worry, they will really appreciate you doing it this way if they are the kind of company you will do well with.
Be aggressive but never be pushy.
Always approach conversations and dialogues with a positive but humble spirit.
Ask for advice. (do you have any advice for me?)
Ask for referrals (do you know of any other companies who could potentiall use my services?)
Ask for network support (would you consider sending my information and credentials along to others who can use my services?)

You can do this... As a just retired President of a medium sized manufacturing company I would always want to talk with somebody who approached me in this manner. It is positive, upbeat, professional, and shows a grittiness that would get my attention.

Does your school offer a co-op program? Or a job fair? Will they set you up with internships? They must at least have a Career Services office. This is where you should direct your questions.
