Did you ever just sit down and look at your homeowner taxes? Do you think its right to pay for things that you don't go to or have any say so over? The zoo and museum is one thing ,but you pay now for Crime information Center. Is that the police department?

You will NEVER use all the services and benefits the government has to offer. But the government is there to provide services and benefits to the public as a whole. There will always be perceived waste because you don't use every service. But another person may find the services YOU use to be a waste.

"The good of the many outweighs the good of the few (or the one)."

How do you know that the Services and Benefits that YOU want don't cost MORE than you are paying in total taxes and that someone else who uses even LESS than you isn't picking up the slack for your household?

The crime info center is probably a headquarters for a database like NCIC. This is used by law enforcement agencies to share data. If you don't care that a wanted serial killer or the like is not identified, than I guess its not necessary. Also, you did go to school once I assume. Did you think that your education was free? Do you want to live in a community full of people that have poor educations? Taxes might not seem fair, but you do use government services. You travel on roads, you enjoy police and fire protection, you have your trash and sewage taken and disposed of, etc.

I won't ever collect social security, but I have to pay it too!! I understand your reasoning, but all of the things you are talking about are community activities and as a member of the community you are obliged to pay for those things - not so that you "pay your own way" for their use, but so that you have the option of using them when and if you need to. One day you will have kids and do things like go to a museum or a zoo and think about how nice they'll be by that time thanks to all of your tax dollars. Yippeee...

The idea is that your taxes and my taxes pay for the services of the government. Just because you own property means that you have to pay. You cannot pick and choose what services you want to pay for. Also, you are paying for those who don't have to pay (i.e. renters and other people who don't own property).

I'm paying taxes on two schools and I don't have any kids.

I guess my tax dollars are meant to fund the kids whose parents don't work.
